At Multicultural Academy, we recognize that students come to us with different backgrounds, learning experiences, strengths, and needs. We are responsible for ensuring every student receives the instruction, encouragement, and support needed to succeed.
Student Support Services brings together English Language Development, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and Special Education.

Each area has its own responsibilities, but all share the same goal: helping students access strong instruction and make meaningful progress.

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
English Language Development (ESL/ELL).
As a multicultural learning community, we value the languages and experiences our students bring to school.
Our team supports English learners in developing the language skills needed to participate confidently in classroom instruction while strengthening reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
Through collaboration with classroom teachers, we integrate language development into everyday learning rather than treating it as a separate experience.

Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
We use a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to identify students who may need additional academic or behavioral support.
Through classroom assessments, universal screening, progress monitoring, and teacher collaboration, we identify learning gaps early and provide targeted interventions.
Strong, evidence-based classroom instruction for all students.
Targeted small-group interventions for students who need additional support.
More intensive, individualized interventions based on student needs and progress.
Academic Intervention & Student Growth.
Student progress is reviewed regularly to determine whether interventions are effective or adjustments are needed.
Our Student Support Services team works alongside classroom teachers to strengthen foundational literacy, mathematics, and academic skills. Support may include small-group instruction, classroom-based interventions, and individualized learning strategies.
We believe student support is not simply about addressing learning gaps. It is about recognizing potential, building confidence, and helping students become increasingly independent learners.
INDIVIDUALIZED STUDENT SUPPORT
Special Education.
Our Special Education team works with eligible students, families, general education teachers, and service providers to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Services are based on individual needs and may include specialized instruction, accommodations, related services, and ongoing progress monitoring.
We work to ensure students can participate meaningfully in school while developing academic, social, and independent skills.

Special Education is a distinct service area within the Student Support Services department, with its own staff responsibilities, eligibility processes, and IEP services.

Student Support Services staff collaborate with teachers, families, and school leaders to review student progress and coordinate support.
Families are partners in understanding students' strengths, needs, and next steps.
Support is planned around the student, with regular review of what is working and what needs to change.
